Reportée SmartPick
Smart Selections for the Web

Reportée brings "desktop type" extended matching to browser users with patented* SmartPick, a uniquely designed select list that increases a web page's interactivity, speed, and usability.
Type Ahead Matching Of User Entries Even with Multiple Lists
User keystrokes sequentially identify a match from a list of choices. A single field may contain choices from multiple lists. The interface is especially useful for moving users from transaction-intensive desktop software, with long and hierarchical lists, to the web.
SmartPick for On-Site Search
SmartPick works with relational and object-oriented databases. Traditionally on-site search involves navigating through several pages or layers. SmartPick allows visitors to enter two or more key words and bring up information that is currently being clicked through as well as enable a view of the organization of the site subjects on the home page.
Dynamic Field Width Adjustment to Provide Full Visibility of User Data
The set of possible entries to be displayed may vary depending on a user's data. The minimum display width needed for full-width display of even the widest entry is evaluated locally by scripting. This results in greater graphic design choices and the ability to mimic the look and feel of a desktop User Interface.
SmartPick versus “Fuzzy Match”
With the advent of AJAX, websites such as Google Finance are using what is known as “fuzzy matching”. “Fuzzy matching” returns results that are predicted to be relevant, even when the terms are in the middle of a data set, rather than at the beginning of the list. Fuzzy search requires lists to be separated and then concatenated as a single string; for the data to be posted it must be re-assembled. Additionally, as the match is not exact, there is a measurable decline in efficiency when compared to SmartPick as fuzzy match requires the browser to make more trips and the user to review more choices.
